NHL Roundup: McDavid, Hakstol, Seguin, The Oilers, MSL and Babcock

Hockey Stat NHL Roundup

July 07, 2015 – Here’s a roundup of news stories from around the National Hockey League that need to be addressed, and, joked about when appropriate.

Kudos to Hall-Of-Famer Martin St. Louis who retired from the NHL after his 15th season, where he racked up an astonishing 1,033 points in 1,134 games played (391 goals, 642 assists); having a remarkable career, which is an inspiring and significant feat for someone that’s 5’8.

The University of North Dakota’s long time bench-boss, Dave Hakstol, has left his post after 11 great seasons to coach the Philadelphia Flyers, who have been an under performing NHL franchise since the 2004-2005 lockout, and will likely lead him to disappointment.

Maybe, hopefully this upcoming 2015-2016 season will mark the end of the Edmonton Oilers dark era. How can you not have optimism after the entire management shakeup that brought in Head Coach Todd McLellan and all new scouts, plus the signing(s) of Connor McDavid, Darnell Nurse, Andrej Sekera, Cam Talbot and Mark Letestu?

Toronto Maple Leafs new head coach, Mike Babcock, could be in for a big surprise with the city’s ‘TMZ-esque media mob which has the ability to make a team implode. Toronto is a intoxicating place to play because there’s too many aspirational bloggers and journalists that have different writing and reporting niches.

The Dallas Stars second leading scorer and notorious party-goer, Tyler Seguin, recently posed nude for ESPN’s Body Issue magazine. It would be very surprising if he doesn’t move onto cruder publications throughout the years.
